Application Re-Engineering

Client Profile

A prominent national organization, that capacitates legal professionals in handling dynamic information in a more productive way, to be more efficient while handling workflows, while being decisive as authentically as possible.

It has a wide customer base hailing from top U.S. law firms and more than 90% of the Fortune 500 companies. Its employee strength encompasses more than 1500 people distributed over multiple locations worldwide.

It backs up the attainment of its services by a sophisticated customer information management system, which is used both by its internal employees as well as its large network of suppliers.

Problem

The custom internal system which used client-server technology needed to be updated. Although being a state of the art implementation, when it first came into existence over a decade ago, it had become obsolete over the years with the prevalence of the internet.

Also, there was a need to remodel many of the definitive business rules ingrained in the system, which were not documented anywhere outside of it, to reflect the ongoing and upcoming business goals.

Solution

A Web-Based Application was designed, implemented and deployed to revamp the current legacy system, which included a full life-cycle development effort starting right from requirement collection phase. The constituting phases were as under :

  • Legacy Data cleanup and migration to Oracle 9i database
  • Development of a three-tier model for the new application using .net framework
  • Using the client’s current framework efficiently to achieve optimized costs and low maintenance while developing the current application
  • Preparing user manuals and comprehensive documentation for the effective application and maintenance of the new framework

The project finally went live after 2 years of endless and dedicated efforts.

Result

The client saw immediate and visible benefits, both in terms of the system users as well as the IT operations team with the launch of the new system, some of which included:

  • Web-based application added intuitiveness to the previous framework
  • Overall system performance improved
  • The training materials and user guides became comprehensive
  • The deployment to new partners was vastly simplified
  • The entire data management function had a process-centric approach
  • The source data was validated before loading
  • All processes were extensively documented
